Well, hello again, Indy! Rolo here. 🐾

September is here, which means summer is winding down, the evenings are getting a little cooler, and there are plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy Indianapolis before fall is in full swing.

I’ve been keeping my ears perked and my nose to the ground, and I found some fun local events coming up this month. Whether you’re looking for a neighborhood tradition, a day out with the family, or something fun to do with your four-legged friend, September has something for just about everyone.

Here are a few events that have caught my attention!

Purr in the Park

September 9th | Victory Field

Okay, I have to admit, I’m a little confused about this one. Why should the cats get to go to the ballpark? But apparently, the Indianapolis Indians are inviting feline fans to Victory Field for Purr in the Park when the Indians take on the Omaha Storm Chasers. Cats can enjoy the game alongside their humans, making this a pretty unique way to spend a September evening in Indy. I’ll be over here patiently waiting for my turn at Bark in the Park.

Jupiter Flights Balloon Festival

September 11th-13th | Conner Prairie

Okay, even I have to admit this one sounds pretty amazing. Jupiter Flights brings Indiana’s largest hot air balloon festival to Conner Prairie for three days of balloon competitions, live entertainment, family activities, and spectacular balloon glows. I’m not sure how I’d feel about riding in one of those balloons, though. I prefer keeping all four paws firmly on the ground.

St. Joan of Arc French Market

September 12th | St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church

The St. Joan of Arc French Market is a longtime Indy tradition featuring French food, live music, local vendors, and family-friendly activities. With free admission and plenty to see and do, it’s a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon or evening enjoying one of Indianapolis’ favorite neighborhood events.

Bow Wow Bash

September 20th | Washington Township Park, Avon

Now THIS is an event I can get behind. The Bow Wow Bash is a full day dedicated to dogs, cats, and the people who love them. Hosted by Misty Eyes Animal Center, the event features contests, a silent auction, and the always-entertaining Doggy Skydiving Spectacular. And if you’re looking to add a new four-legged member to the family, there will be rescue organizations with animals available for adoption.

Indy Jazz Fest

September 22nd-26th | Downtown

September wraps up with Indy Jazz Fest, a five-day celebration of jazz featuring performances all around the city. With nationally recognized artists alongside talented local musicians, it’s a great way to enjoy some of the city’s incredible music and culture right here in our community. The festival is a great reminder that you don’t have to leave Indy to find incredible music, entertainment, and culture. It’s all right here in our community.

September is shaping up to be a great month in Indianapolis, with plenty of ways to get out, enjoy the community, and make the most of the changing season. After all that exploring, though, even I have to admit there’s nothing better than coming home, curling up in a comfortable spot, and relaxing.
