October’s here, and you know what that means—ghostly chills, fall thrills, and plenty of ways to enjoy our city this spooky season! I’ve rounded up some of my favorite local events that’ll have you falling in love with Indy all over again.

🎃 ZooBoo

October 1st – November 2nd | Indianapolis Zoo

ZooBoo is back, giving kids a safe, fun way to trick-or-treat with the animals. There are themed activities, festive decorations, and just the right amount of spookiness for families. I love wandering through with my own crew and catching all the Halloween vibes.

🍺17th Annual GermanFest

October 4th | The Athenaeum

The Athenaeum hosts this all-ages celebration that’s full of beer, brats, wiener dog races, and live music. It’s one of my favorite October traditions—perfect for embracing fall while enjoying Indy’s German heritage. Prost!

🎬 Heartland International Film Festival

October 9th–19th | Various locations around Indy

Indy’s Heartland International Film Festival is back, featuring over 100 independent films at venues across the city. Whether you’re into spooky thrillers, inspiring stories, or just a cozy October night out, this festival delivers. Popcorn optional, chills guaranteed.

🍽️ World Food Championships

October 16th–19th | Indiana State Fairgrounds

Food enthusiasts can indulge in a culinary showdown featuring over 1,200 chefs competing for the title of World Champion in various categories. From barbecue to desserts, this event offers a taste of the world’s best cuisines.

🎨 Locally Made: Indy’s Fall Fest

October 18th | Indy Arts Center

This free event features local artists, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. Enjoy pumpkin painting, make-it-take-it projects, and live music while exploring everything Locally Made has to offer.

👻 Historic Irvington Halloween Festival

October 18th–25th | Irvington Historic District

This week-long celebration culminates on October 25th with a street fair full of live music, food trucks, and a beer garden. From spooky storytelling to a Vampire 5K run, this festival embraces the Halloween spirit with plenty of community charm.
